Chapter 21 Problems
Chapter
Objectives
- Determine the reactance of an inductor,
a capacitor, and a resistor when placed in an a.c. circuit.
- Calculate the resonance frequency for an
RLC circuit.
- Describe the workings of a transformer
and calculate the voltage and current in each coil of one.
- Describe the relationship between the
frequency, wavelength, and speed of light.
- Determine the Doppler shift for a
receding or approaching light source.
Conceptual Questions
- In order to tune a radio to a different station (frequency), what
component would you most likely change in the tuner circuit: a
resistor, an inductor, or a capacitor?
- Many of the electrical insturments in our homes either run on
d.c. voltage or would run more efficiently on d.c. voltage. Why,
then, do we have a.c. voltages coming from the power plant?
- Do all animals see the same EM frequencies that humans see?
If not, what would be the advantage of seeing in different frequency
ranges?
