Procedure for Obtaining a Visible Spectrum (Helios)

1. Sign log book.
2. Turn on instrument. It will take approximately 5 minutes to warm up.
3. When the menu appears on screen, push the Zero Base button to zero out the instrument.
4. Using the arrow direction keys, go to scan and push Enter.
5. Using the arrow direction keys, go to start and push Enter.  Enter the desired wavelength and push Enter.
6. Using the arrow direction keys, go to stop and push Enter.  Enter the desired wavelength and push Enter.
7. Place the sample in the sample holder, aligning the clear windows with the optical path (video).
8. Hit Run to obtain the spectrum.
9. When finished with the scan, hit manipulate, and go to peaks, push Enter. Go to peaks, push Enter.  This will mark the peaks on your spectrum.
10. To print a spectrum, hit print graph for hardcopy.
11. When finished, hit the Home button.
12. Turn off the instrument and sign out in the log book.
