Announcement: Research Assistant (RA) positions available

August 27. 2019: Dr. Hossain Presents Research on Rice Resource
Dr. Hossain presented his research findings on the sustainable use of rice husk ash in flowable fill concrete at the 2019 summer conference of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Resource Conservation and Recovery. His presentation is online. The workshop was at the National Academies of Science in Washington, D.C. Hossain also serves as a committee member.

April 4, 2019: Dr. Hossain Received 2019 A-State Faculty Achievment Award for Advising

Dr. Zahid Hossain, associate professor of civil engineering, was recognized as recipient of the Faculty Achievement Award for Advising for 2018-19. Nominators spoke of his sincere engagement with students, his dedication to one-on-one interaction, and his high level of professionalism in giving effective academic guidance. Hossain completed his doctoral degree at the University of Oklahoma, and joined A-State's faculty in 2012.

Dr. Hossain has led A-State to become a consortium member of the regional University Transportation Center (UTC). A-State and 11 other universities in the region received a five-year award to address transportation problems. LSU is the lead university of this award.

June 6, 2014: Dr. Hossain and his colleages receives NSF:MRI Award

Dr. Hossain and his colleagues receive a Major Research Instrument (MRI) grant from National Science Foundation (NSF). As part of this grant, an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) will be acquired to evaluate nano-scale properties of materials and support ongoing multi-disciplinary materials research, education, and training programs. May 29, 2014: Dr. Hossain Receives 2014 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award

Dr. Hossain receives the prestigious 2014 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) to study longer lasting and cost effective novel materials for pavements. As part of this project, Dr. Hossain will partner with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the University of Oklahoma. A graduate student will be assisting Dr. Hossain to meet the goals of this project and will be supported (partially) through this grant. Welcome to Abbas Karouni for joining our research team. Abbas brings his expertise in the area of instrumentation and material characterization. As a chemistry student, Abbas will be assisting Dr. Hossain in the NASA sponsored project througout the summer.

April 15, 2014: Dr. Hossain Receives 2014 Arkansas State Excellence in Scholarship award 

Dr. Hossain received the 2014 Arkansas State Excellence in Scholarship award for his research into the use of novel paving materials. This is another huge moment for the team to celebrate. Thanks to everyone in the team for the hardwork and dedication.

April 10, 2014: Congratulations to Nazmul and Biswajit

It is another great moment for our team and COE. I am very delighted to let you know that Nazmul and Biswajit won three awards in the 2014 Create@STATE event. Nazmul received two awards on his poster titled "Forensic Investigations Of Poor-Performing Pavements In Arkansas." Nazmul received the Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award (overall) and the 2nd Place award in the Graduate STEM category. Biswajit received the second place (overall) award in Three Minute Thesis Competition. The title of Biswajit's oral presentation was "Sustainable Use of Scrap Tire in Pavement."  Way to go team!

Wecome Hans Gilbert and Tremaine Harris to the team. Both Hans and Tremaine will be doing their internship in our laboratory. They will be exposed to material testing, and data analysis that we do on daily basis.

June 1, 2013: Labview Internship at Nucor

Nucor-Yamato at Blytheville is in need of an intern who knows LabView. Below is the high level description of the position provided by a hiring manager/engineer at Nucor:  http://www.ni.com/labview/

"I am looking for an intern that knows programming in LabView to develop a video recognition software.  I have books and the manuals, so maybe a student with a light knowledge in LabView programming is good for the project.  About time, I depends on the school schedule. Normally goes from summer to fall or the other half of the year.  We rent apartments for the interns, 1 intern per room, apartments have either 2 or 3 rooms.  All services in the apartment are included, with internet and cable.  Salary is between 18 to 20 dollars per hr.  I need one intern for this project ASAP, I believe we can do the project in a couple months, but I will have them busy with other projects if we finish early.  If you have somebody and fits our needs I can arrange the HR give you the exact detail in times and salary."  Contact mhossain@astate.edu if interested.
