REU: Research Experience for
Undergraduates - Engaging Undergraduates in
Multidisciplinary Research in
Sensing and Analysis
The focus of
this REU site will be to provide the students with research experience
in sensors and their applications, with related lab and field exercises,
and project work.
Activities
will involve introduction to theoretical and
practical aspects of sensing in engineering applications,
instrumentation, data acquisition, signal processing and analysis.
Research topics will be related to applications of the principles of
mechanical, electrical and civil engineering and the projects will be
integrated across these areas.
The program
is designed to support eight students during ten weeks of summer. The
students will be recruited from various four-year colleges including
several historically black colleges, and will include women and
minorities. Regionally, efforts will be made to recruit students from
colleges within the state. The emphasis will be on recruiting students
attending schools where research opportunities do not exist; selection
procedures based on scholarly aptitude and research potential.
Arkansas
State University has a strong commitment to minority education, having
strong linkages to several HBCU campuses. With the university having
excellent facilities to support this type of undergraduate research
program, this REU site grant will have a major impact in fostering
undergraduate research and education.
