21 May 2007: Norwottuck rail trail
Hooray. After three bleak days of cold weather and grey skies when it was not raining (which it was most of the time), warmer weather and some blue skies and even a little sun. After doing some stuff at U Mass in Amherst, I rode the Norwottuck rail trail from the Northampton/Hadley line back in to Amherst. (Not having the brains to do the ride from Amherst to Northampton/Hadley may explain why I didn't go to U Mass, let alone Amherst.)
It's a nice ride on asphalt with some pretty scenery. For example, there's this:

On the other hand, if you turn yourself around 180 degrees from the scene above, you see MA 9 and shopping (if my practiced eyes don't deceive me, that's a new Wal-Mart on the left):

At one point in the trail this year, there is an obstacle causing an ever-so-slight detour:

But lots of it is very nice.
