24 May 2007: Mount Olga

Mount Olga (summit @ 1942') in Molly Stark State Park is a mile by road from the cabin I'm renting, but I was encouraged to bushwhack through the woods to get there. And that's what I did this morning.

Don't see a trail here? That's why they call it bushwhacking. I don't know that I made the most direct route, but I got there.
The trail to Mount Olga is a short loop, about 1.8 miles.

At the summit there is a fire tower which has, I suppose, fine views of southern Vermont and northern Massachusetts. I suppose because I have a fear of exposed heights and so didn't climb it. Ah, well. (My death-defying, and all-too-often father-defying, son Jeremy did climb it when he visited in June, and I've got the pictures to prove it.)

I decided to go home by road. After all, how much bush can a guy take?
After a few hours work at the Pettee Library,
I capped off the day with an evening walk to Lake Raponda (just me and the noseeums).
