27 May 2007: Hamilton falls, Morris dances

The hike to Hamilton Falls starts in Jamaica State Park with a two mile stroll on the railbed of the ill-fated West River Railroad (also known as "36 miles of trouble").

Then it is a continuous, but reasonable one-mile climb to the falls.

Then the falls:

The owners of the cabin in which I'm living had told me that several groups of Morris Dancers were going to be in a number of area towns over the weekend and so when I read of a mass Morris Dance with several troops performing on the Newfane Green, I decided to take a look.  Leggings with bells, sticks, kerchiefs, and music provided by accordion and, sometimes also fiddle and one person playing both fife and drum.  Kinda fun. For some reason, it brought the Mummers to mind.
