4 June 2009: Putney Mountain

Friends told me last year about Putney Mountain, so I went over to check it out today. From the southern trailhead, called a kiosk (but, hey, it's Putney) it's a pretty short hike along the ridge trail to the highpoint of today's hike, a high, flat clearing that is apparently a hawk sighting area. There are limited views to the east but nice views to the west (I think the highest mountain, with evident ski slopes, is Bromley but it could be Stratton).

From this point, the trail descends to Banning Road (on my return, down came a mom and four ten year-old boys on mountain bikes) and the trail continues along this road, graded/maintained, for I guess about a mile after which it turns into a single track old road that is not maintained. I followed that for perhaps another half mile, and retraced my steps.

A nice day.
