The Deceiver

So I took her to the inn believing we were same of mind
but she had her game planned.
T'was a Sunday afternoon
and I thought we were obliged to
but when the door was shut
and the lizards scurried to hide
the dog was suddenly on guard.
I touched her absent breasts
and they lighted up to me|
like the sun on a cloudy day
but she pulled quickly away
like startled fish
half full of flame
half full of ice.
We tried to hold again and again
but each hold tautened her
as tuned strings of a Spanish guitar.

So I agreed to another time
believing we both knew the game
but she already drew the line
T'was a Tuesday afternoon
and I thought we were obliged to
But past the appointed hour
as city lights went low
and crickets came alive
T'was clear
as glass with silver
that the dog had broken chain and left its runner in the rain.

That night I rode the back way home
avoiding the sun, the moon and the stars.
I behaved like what I am
A proper villager
I did not fill with hate
for although she had her game planned
she said we were same of mind
when I took her to the inn.
